Valerie Vesich, RHIA, CTR, is the manager of education for CHAMPS Oncology. In her role, she coordinates the educational and training needs for the CHAMPS Oncology team. These needs include guiding individuals seeking their certified tumor registrar (CTR®) credential, mentoring new CTRs and delivering continuing education webinars. She truly enjoys empowering cancer registrars to take on new responsibilities in order to embrace the ever-changing cancer registry field. 

Vesich has over 35 years of cancer registry managerial experience in a variety of settings. Previously, she was a manager at an integrated network cancer program, a teaching facility, various comprehensive cancer centers and community-based facilities. She also worked as a senior sales executive and client support specialist with an oncology software company. Additionally, she organized the Collaborative Stage project while serving as a manager for the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) at the Commission on Cancer (CoC).

Vesich received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. She is heavily involved in several cancer registry associations and has held various officer titles for the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA), the American Health and Information Management Association (AHIMA), the Indiana Cancer Registrars Association (ICRA), and the Illinois Cancer Registrars Association (CRI).

An experienced and professional speaker, Vesich was a guest lecturer for NAACCR and spoke on topics including FORDS, Collaborative Stage and AJCC Stage for the CoC. She has also spoken at NCRA and many state and local organizations on Collaborative Stage and AJCC, quality improvement, and survival.

Vesich has been an instructor for several cancer registry online courses over the years. She was a member of the SEER web-training module from 2003-2007, editor for NCRA’s TNM Staging Workbook, 2012 and a member of NCRA’s informatics team for their annual pre-conference sessions, 2014.
